Who we are ?

Our club was formed in 1990, on the model of previously existing American clubs. We are non-profit association (asbl) and our goal is purely social, friendly and non-commercial.

We wish to promote a positive image of the large men, in order to let them get out of the closet, have fun and feel proud of themselves.

We organize social activities, party's, in various places and European cities.

We have published 53 issues of a magazine named "The Fat Angel Times", which contains pictures, stories, artworks, info and international personal ads about bears and big men, and which are still available in back catalogue order thru our Shopping section.

We produce and distribute videos, t-shirts and other products to promote a positive image of the over weighted men.

In 1991, we organized the first ever "European Big Men's Convergence" (aka EBMC) in Brussels, and did it again every year except in 1995. In 2000, we will host it again in Brussels in 2000.

We have encouraged and helped new clubs to start in other European countries.

We have initiated the birth of the Federation of European Big Men's clubs (aka FEB) to unite the existing clubs and help news clubs to start and grow in united friendship.

We organize a free "hospitality service" thorough our members in Europe in order to put up visitors from abroad on trips or holiday in Europe.

We militate for the acceptance of big men and the rights of large people in the society.

We have lots of fun!

The regular media, which its muscular or top model "thin is beautiful" stereotypes, often oppress and hurt big people, giving a bad image of chubbies and treating us as abnormal. We see so many ads giving a negative image of our size and weight, and trying to convince us to go on another expensive diet. So many of us have tried those diets, losing some weight, and then gaining it back (and more) in the next years. All these "ups and downs" are bad for your health, bad for your ego and terrible to both your wardrobe and your wallet ! On the other hand they are good for the doctors, pill manufacturers, tailors and expensive diet cookie makers!

So, what if we all have a certain weight written down our genes? Weren't Jean-Sebastian Bach, Honore de Balzac and Oliver Hardy were perfectly normal people, healthy, who lived long and well ? Then, if no REAL medical reason isn't there to stop us (and too many doctors use the weight as the reason for all your health problems !), wouldn't it be better to accept ourselves as being chubby, and to try to live a healthy life that way instead of fighting against it and be unhappy, avoiding good food and (after all) suffering from that lack of freedom all our life?

Chasers and cubs

Chubbies and big bears have been oppressed for too long. It is time to come out and EAT life! Let's not waste time criticizing the ones who put us down, let us just HAVE FUN! Other people need us : the CHASERS and the CUBS. Those guys, who look more "normal" to the general public and the media, like us, wish to know us, but it's even harder for them to come out. Often their friends will joke about big people, point them out in the street, in bars, in restaurants, and the chasers often won't dare saying they love big men. They are much unhappier than us. That's also for them that this club was created, so that they don't need to be ashamed anymore. Let's show them that we love ourselves, so they can come and love us too!

From 1994, we were present on the world wide web, first with the Girth & Mirth Belgium home page at "planete.net/nounours", started by our friend and member Laurent K.

At the end of 1996, we decided to develop our web site and opened BIGGERWORLD in 1997. It was an instant success and people visited our website (up to 272000 hits in a week). It's important to realize that, at that time, Biggerworld.com was the only website for big men and their admirers on the internet. About a year later, Chubnet appeared, and then many other websites, some of whom based their content, or even their name, on what we had created. But to us, it was alsways a good and positive thing to see more web sites being created, for the good of big men and for the enjoyment of the chub and chaser community.

Sadly, at some point, Biggerworld was the victim of its success. Our bandwith and hosting costs were too big for the financial means of our little non-profit club, and we had to close all our photo galleries. Other websites, with better finances and some with a commercial intent, got the opportunity to take over the "market" and became much more successfull than our site. But we went on, trying to offer the best possible information for big men and their admirers, as well as international personal ads, stories, etc. And, with the help of our new webmaster Cedric, this is what we will try to continue offering.

Everyone's welcome in G&M. No matter if you are bearded, hairy, very big, slightly stocky, young, old, small or tall, you are all welcome. Our club has no fixed stereotypes, and is a space of freedom and friendship. All our activities are open to everybody, members or not and are warm, intimate and familial.

In 1995, a section named Brussels Bears was founded to please our members and other men more attracted to hirsute types than to chubbies in general. Brussels Bears has joined activities with G&M-B and also typical bear events on the side of the central club.

Our goals are to HAVE FUN, enjoy LIFE, make FRIENDS!
