"WAKE UP
I'M FAT
!".
Hollywood

his
blunt but interesting sentence is the title of a new book signed Camryn Manheim.
For most of you, unless you live in the States, this name probably doesn't ring
the bell at all. For our US friends or other people who have seen the tv serie
"The Practice", Camryn Manheim is a star, and not a small one. This
lovely 290+ pounds woman has played small parts in movies like "Eraser",
"Jeffrey", "The Road to Wellville" or "Bonfire of the
Vanities", and she has, and communicates, an energy like we don't see around
much these days. After a one-woman-show and some other tv appearances, Camryn
has been cast for one of the roles in the new series "The Practice".
The show is about a legal firm specializing in criminal cases, and it is the
second hit-show from David Kelley, who had already brought us the wonderful
series "Ally McBeal" last year. Just like "Ally", "The
Practice" has won a whole bunch of awards after only its first season,
also allowing Camryn to be nominated for a Golden Globe, which she won !! And
not only did she win the Golden Globe for the best performance by an actress
in a supporting role/series or telefilm drama, but The Practice won the Globe
for Best Series Drama. ( http://abc.go.com/primetime/the_practice/index.html
) This year, "The Practice" got 13 nominations for the next Emmy Awards,
including one more nomination for Camryn Manheim. And it's on no less than David
Letterman's Late Show, that the gorgeous Camryn went to present her new auto-biographical
book "Wake up, I'm Fat!", starting her interview by telling the host
that she always had a crush on him !!! The title of the book, Camryn explained,
comes from an anecdote that happened when she was 28. She was at a mall, shopping
for clothes with her Mother when she saw a dress she wanted to try on, and asked
her mother to pass her one in size 20. Her mother handed her the dress and she
went to a cubicle to try it on. But it didn't fit, it was much too small and
Camryn felt bad and ashamed, like we big people all do, when we have to come
out and ask for a bigger size... Then suddenly, she saw the label of the dress
and read "17", and realized that her mother had given her a smaller
size on purpose, to make her think that she gained weight and she should try
to loose some. Camryn burst out of the dressing room and yelled "MOM, Wake
up ! I'M FAT !!". Camryn Mainheim's book talks all about that, and also
about her work and how she got cast in "The Practice". It must be
very interesting, just as the author truly is. And you have no idea how pleased
I was when Letterman asked her "Have you been hmmm overweight all your
life" and she replied "oh we don't use that word, we say FAT".
Fabulous ! Check out the book when it arrives at your local bookstore : "Wake
